News that British Gas profits soared to £118 million in 2021 has sparked a call for a windfall on big profiting energy companies.
Sinn Féin MP John Finucane has urged the British government to take action with the windfall tax and redirect the money back into people's pockets.
The North Belfast MP said: "While ordinary people and working families are struggling with out-of-control gas prices, profits lifted by British Gas soared by 44 percent in 2021.
"This is totally unfair.
"I am reiterating our call on the British government to introduce a windfall tax on big energy companies who have lifted huge profits and redirect the money back into people's pockets.
"They should also scrap VAT on household energy bills to immediately cut people's costs."
