Resident of the island of Inis Oírr are set to benefit from an improved water supply thanks to new works.
Irish Water is working with Galway County Council to replace almost 1km of old water mains on the Island with new, modern pipes. These works will help drive down leakage and improve water supply to homes and businesses.
Speaking about the project Gerry O'Donnell, Leakage Reduction Programme Regional Lead with Irish Water said: "Irish Water is delighted to deliver these vital water mains replacement works on Inis Oírr, which will benefit the local community by driving down leakage while providing a more secure water supply for homes and businesses on the Island.
"Irish Water acknowledges the continued co-operation and patience of the local community on Inis Oírr while we continue to deliver these vital water network improvement works to improve the water supply."
The works will also involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to the front of the customers' property boundaries and connecting it to the customer's water supply.
The works may involve some short-term supply interruptions which may cause inconvenience. The project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours' notice prior to any planned water interruptions.
The works will be carried out on behalf of Irish Water by Farrans Construction and are expected to be completed in July.
