Construction Underway On Saggart Community Centre

Construction News Image
A new €2.3 million community facility in Saggart Village, Co Dublin, has officially began construction.

A sod-turning ceremony was held to mark the beginning of construction on the project, which is being delivered thanks to a collaboration between South Dublin County Council and the board of management of the local voluntary Saggart Schoolhouse Community Centre.

The investment in the Saggart Community Centre is approximately €2.3 million for its construction with funding support of €500,000 provided through the Government's LEADER Programme for rural development.

Following a competitive tender process, the contract for the construction of the centre was awarded to M. L. Quinn Construction Ltd. It is anticipated that the construction will take approximately twelve to fourteen months to complete.

The proposed building is designed to preserve the important community history encapsulated in the old St Marys National School building while transforming the site to provide a modern, multi-purpose community facility for the growing population of Saggart Village.

The Council is looking forward to working with the board and community in Saggart to develop an impactful community resource in the village centre.

Speaking at the sod-turning, the Mayor of South Dublin County, Councillor Peter Kavanagh, said: "I am delighted to turn the sod on the new community centre in Saggart Village. I want to commend residents and the staff in the Council for their collaborative approach to this project and I look forward to seeing the completed centre in the future."
