Water Mains Replacements Confirmed For Co Cork Townland

Construction News Image
Work to replace ageing water mains in the County Cork townland of Rathpeacon has been announced.

Irish Water and Cork County Council are collaborating to replace 1km of problematic mains in the area, beginning in late August and scheduled for completion in mid-October.

The works will also involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers' property boundaries and connecting it to the customers' water supply.

Ward and Burke Limited is delivering the work on behalf of Irish Water, which will take place along Boreen Dearg Road, from its junction with Rathpeacon Road to the Old Mallow Road.

Speaking about the upcoming works, Paul Moroney from Irish Water, explained: "Replacement of watermains and service connections will eliminate existing leaks and reduce the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground. The overall result will be a better water supply for the people of Rathpeacon.

"To facilitate the safe delivery of the upgrades, a road closure will be required along Boreen Dearg Road, however, local and emergency access will be maintained at all times.

"Works will be limited to short sections to minimise any impact on customers. During this project there may be some short-term water outages and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours' notice before any planned water outages.

"We understand that road works and water outages can be inconvenient, but our crews will make every effort to minimise disruption to local communities as we continue to improve the water supply in Cork and progress the National Leakage Reduction Programme."

To complete the works in a safe and efficient manner, a road closure is required along Boreen Dearg Road (L-27823), from late August to late October. Local and emergency traffic will always be maintained.
