National E-Planning Project Enters Next Phase

Construction News Image
The rollout of the national e-Planning project has moved forward to the next phase.

Led by the Local Government Management Agency (LGMA), the project aims to bring the planning application process online, replacing the current requirement to submit applications in hard copy.

An online system has been developed through which planning applications can be made and applicants will be kept updated on the progress of their application.

The project aims to improve efficiency, reduce the potential for invalid applications, and deliver on the government strategy to move more public services online.

The portal has been successfully pilot tested in Tipperary and Galway County Councils with sign off last December to the point where online applications are now being accepted by those Planning Authorities.

Westmeath County Council has been selected to participate in the Wave 1 Rollout commencing in mid September 2022. Preparatory work is ongoing and, in conjunction with the LGMA, it is intended to move to the next steps in the process in the coming weeks.

As part of the next phase of the rollout, the Planning Department is engaging with planning agents who regularly interact with Westmeath County Council in order to assist with the move to the electronic submission of planning applications.
