Construction News Image
The development of a new world class International Rugby Experience in Limerick city has taken a key step forward.

Marcon has been appointed as Principal Contractor to deliver the new state-of-the-art 7 storey International Rugby Experience building. It will be split into distinct spaces, with each space having a different character and providing a digital interactive experience dedicated to Irish and International rugby that will be engaging to all visitors.

The experience will take visitors on a journey from the grass roots of rugby, through training, and the importance of determination and skills of the team and individuals, allowing them to see what it takes to become a rugby legend.

The balance across the experience aims to cater to all audiences, from novices to rugby experts, in equal measure, with most exhibits having a multi-layered approach to cater to all audience types in one.

Furthermore, diversity across different forms of the game ensure all audiences are represented, including stories from wheelchair rugby, 7s and 15s within both the women's and men's game.

Marcon will be responsible for the entire fit-out including all specialist packages for Graphics; Showcases; Props and objects; Interactives and audio-visual installations.

Media will be at the fore of all exhibits through emotionally driven films and gripping audio scapes, to immersive skills interactives; gallery-wide projection shows; face-to-face virtual encounters with legendary rugby players and much more.

Director at Marcon, Mark O'Connor, commented: "This is an exciting opportunity and Marcon are thrilled to have been appointed as Principal contractor. The new visitor experience will prove a popular destination for local audiences; tourists; sports fans and families seeking a good day out. We are really looking forward to delivering this world class facility."

Works have started on site and the iconic Visitor Experience will open to the public in 2023.
