The development of a Community Library and Education and Training Centre in the County Westmeath town of Kinnegad has reached a major milestone.
Coolsivna Construction Ltd has secured the contract from Westmeath County Council for the project. This will involve the restoration and extension of the Old School House in Kinnegad.
Westmeath County Council's Chief Executive, Pat Gallagher, said: "Westmeath County Council is eagerly anticipating delivery of this first phase of the Kinnegad Regeneration Plan which in partnership with the Longford and Westmeath Education and Training Board will provide a modern library, with a variety of community spaces, a changing places facility and amenities. This is the first of a number of amenities to be delivered by our regeneration team in Kinnegad."
Welcoming the signing of the contract, Councillor Aengus O'Rourke, Cathaoirleach of Westmeath County Council, commented: "I look forward to the completion of this project which will deliver much needed amenities in Kinnegad, giving a huge improvement both in terms of social and economic development. The co-operation of Westmeath County Council and Longford and Westmeath Education and Training Board is welcomed and the return of the Old School House in Kinnegad to full use as a Community Library and Education and Training centre will provide a springboard for the regeneration of Kinnegad."
Mary Stuart, County Librarian, Westmeath County Council added: "The delivery of a modern community library providing quality services and amenities, far beyond that of the traditional library, will support and strengthen the community of Kinnegad."
This project is being funded through Project Ireland 2040 and the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund (RRDF) from the Department of Rural and Community Development.
