Almost 7,000 New Homes Reach Completion In Ireland

Construction News Image
A total of 6,716 new homes were completed across Ireland in the first three months of this year, new data has revealed.

CSO published figures on new home completions for Q1 2023, representing a 19.1% increase on the same quarter in 2022.

Welcoming the figures, Housing Minister Darragh O'Brien said: "Today's figures show supply is increasing and that we are going in the right direction. Yesterday, I announced extra measures to get even more homes built and quicker, including scrapping development levies to stimulate more building activity and a scheme to kick-start the delivery of thousands more Cost Rental homes. These measures will further boost supply. Housing for All contains a projected housing output of 29,000 homes in 2023 and I am confident we will meet this target – if not exceed it.

"All of this positive momentum builds on the back of a record 7,349 homes commenced in the first three months of 2023. There is also a strong pipeline of social and affordable housing, with over 19,000 social homes at various stages of construction and over 2,700 more affordable homes already approved for funding."

Minister O'Brien turned the sod at a development for 133 Cost Rental homes at Belgard Square North, Tallaght where South Dublin County Council is developing the project with funding from the government's Affordable Housing Fund in partnership with developers JJ Rhatigan.

The Minister also visited the site of Elanora Court, Long Mile Road, Walkinstown, where 153 social housing units are being developed by Respond, the Approved Housing Body, working in partnership with Dublin City Council and Jackie Greene Construction Limited.

As well as future developments, the Minister opened 52 new high-quality homes in Canal Bridge, Bluebell, for local families and individuals in Bluebell and the surrounding areas. These are also a development of Respond in partnership with Dublin City Council and KM Kyle Holdings. These homes were part financed by the government's Capital Advance Leasing Facility.

Minister O'Brien added: "Today, I was privileged to see just some of the great work taking place on the ground in Dublin. This work is being replicated across the country. The latest completion data reflects this kind of activity and the initiatives announced this week will boost it further."
