Uisce Éireann is leading the scheme with support from Tipperary County Council, as part of national efforts to reduce leakage.
ShareRidge Civil Engineering will begin work in the coming days to replace 1.8km of damaged pipes with new modern pipes in The Ragg.
Scheduled for completion by the end of June, the upgrades will represent a significant step in reducing disruption from bursts and outages which have been affecting homes and businesses in the area.
Speaking ahead of the works, Gerry O'Donnell from Uisce Éireann, explained: "Old and damaged water mains are a huge source of leakage and continue to impact communities right across Ireland, causing low pressure and supply disruption. Replacing these old water mains in poor condition at The Ragg, Bouladuff will eliminate existing leaks and significantly reduce the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground.

"I would like to thank the local community in advance for their patience and cooperation during the works, we know based on previous experiences that the short-term inconvenience will be overshadowed by the long-term benefits."
These upgrades will take place along the R498 from the Tipperary Camogie Grounds, via Bouladuff village, to the junction for Farney Castle. A short section of works is also scheduled along the Bouladuff/Templemore Road (L4131) from the crossroads in Bouladuff village, to beyond the National School.
Areas of work will be limited to short sections to minimise impact on customers. Traffic management in the form of traffic lights will be in place for the duration of the works however, local and emergency traffic will always be maintained.
