Uisce Éireann Progressing Dún Laoghaire Water Works

Construction News Image
Uisce Éireann, working in partnership with Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, is progressing a significant project to upgrade and improve the water network in Milltown and Dundrum.

The delivery of this important project will support existing and future growth and development by increasing the capacity of the existing water network, improving performance and providing a more resilient water supply for a growing population.

It is one of a number of projects that Uisce Éireann has undertaken to support and enable housing and economic growth in Dublin and the Greater Dublin Area (GDA).

The project, which will begin next week, will involve the replacement of 720m of water mains along the Dundrum Road (R117), to improve the capacity of the existing water network. The section of works will take place from the entrance to Alexandra Terrace to the entrance to Highfield Park.

Uisce Éireann engineer and Programme Manager, Padraig Hanly, explained “Uisce Éireann is committed to enabling communities across Dublin to thrive by continuously upgrading and developing our critical water and wastewater infrastructure and supporting sustainable growth and development. This project is essential in order to increase the capacity of the water network and enable future growth and development."

Padraig continued: “We understand that work on our critical infrastructure may be disruptive to the local community which is why our experienced water services crews will work hard to complete the project as quickly as possible.”

The project will be carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by GMC Utilities Ltd and is expected to be completed before the end of the year.

In order to complete the works safely and efficiently, traffic management in the form of a stop/go system will be necessary but will be removed at the end of the working week. Working hours will be from 7am to 7pm, Monday to Thursday, and 7am to 4pm on Fridays. To minimise the impact on residents, businesses and road users, the works will be carried out in phases. For more details on the phases and a list of FAQs,  please visit the Dedicated Project Page on the Uisce Éireann website.
