Phoenix Energy has announced its latest initiative, the Phoenix Energy Green Community Fund.
The Energy Green Community Fund is a new strand of Phoenix's Community Fund which is aimed at helping local community groups, specifically those improving the environment.
East Belfast Mission, a local charity was the first recipient of the new Green Community Fund. Last month, the charity and its service users visited Seaforde Gardens and Tropical Butterfly to engage in talks on biodiversity and climate change.
Jonathan Martindale, Director of Business Development at Phoenix Energy presented the funding to East Belfast Mission before departing for Seaford Gardens, he said: "As a responsible local business, Phoenix likes to give back to the communities we operate in where we can. Our Community Fund has been providing a great opportunity for us to do this, for the past number of years.
"More recently, we recognise that there are a lot of local community groups within the area that we operate in, who are doing fantastic things in the biodiversity and environmental space. The Green Community Fund is a way of being able to give a helping hand to those engaged in sustainability locally, alongside the other work that Phoenix does in the biodiversity space such as planting 8,000 trees per year with The Conservation Volunteers. We are really looking forward to seeing more applications coming through in the next few months."
Lianne Mullholland, Fundraising Manager at East Belfast Mission, said: "We are hugely grateful to Phoenix Energy for their support in enabling our fantastic outing to go ahead. In the run up to the event we held sessions on biodiversity including workshops on learning to plant fruit, vegetable, and herbs. The day spent at Seaforde Gardens enabled women from all different backgrounds to learn about the global and local impacts of the climate crisis in a safe setting."
Phoenix is committed to developing renewable gas solutions to further enhance the green credentials of the gas that consumers use to heat their homes.
