Competitions and Markets Authority (CMA) has launched Green Agreements Guidance to help businesses collaborate on environmental sustainability goals in line with the law.
The guidance explains how competition law applies to environmental sustainability agreements between firms operating at the same level of the supply chain, to help them act on climate change and environmental sustainability.
Within the Green Agreements Guidance, key principles are set out to help businesses shape their decisions when working with other companies on environmental initiatives. There is a chapter focused on how agreements tackling climate change will be dealt with. The guidance also explains that CMA does not expect to take enforcement action against agreements that are in line with the guidance.
For companies that are in doubt, CMA is operating an open-door policy whereby CMA can be contacted by non-governmental organisations, charities and businesses for informal advice on proposed environmental sustainability initiatives.
