Farrans Construction is continuing to improve Galway's water supply.
Uisce Éireann has teamed up with Galway County Council to replace the water mains along the R360 from Ballyroe to Smyths Garage, Williamstown.
Work has now commenced in Williamstown to replace one kilometre of ageing water mains with modern pipes.
The essential works will provide a more reliable water supply, improve water quality and reduce the amount of treated drinking water lost to leakage.
Uisce Éireann’s Declan Cawley, said: "Replacing these old water mains in poor condition will eliminate existing leaks and significantly reduce the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground. We would like to thank the local community for their patience while we work to provide a more secure and reliable water supply for generations to come."
Uisce Éireann has said that crews will make an effort to minimise disruption and the project team will give customers 48 hours notice prior to any planned interruptions.
The works will be completed by December.
