Work Must Continue On Casement Park - Alliance

Construction News Image
Alliance has said that works must continue to complete Casement Park on time after Heron Bros has announced that it will not deliver the main works contract.

The party's sports spokesperson, David Honeyford MLA said that although this is "another disappointing set back" there is still time to "appoint a replacement quickly and we must continue to work with Ulster GAA in delivering this project".

In a statement Mr Honeyford said: "While it is a disappointing setback, it is not necessarily an unexpected one, with rising costs across many sectors being the main factor at play. To deliver the stadium will now require additional financial input from the UK and Irish Governments – both of which must now move quickly to announce a timescale for funding and construction.

"Alliance continues to fully support the delivery of Casement Park and will continue to work with all involved so Northern Ireland doesn’t miss the opportunity of hosting Euro 2028 in Belfast."
