The Department for Communities has provided significant funding for the revitalisation of Warrenpoint's Front Shore.

Following initial meetings of the Steering Group, a plan has been agreed with construction work due to commence in the coming weeks.

Key priorities of the works include addressing dereliction and the implementation of a Shop Front Improvement Scheme. Other projects include the purchase of Christmas lights for the Front Shore and the erection of interpretative signage highlighting the area's history.

It is hoped that through the implementation of these key projects, there will be an increased number of visitors, which will further aid the development of Warrenpoint as a key tourism destination.

Warrenpoint Front Shore Revitalisation Steering Group Chairperson, Councillor Michael Ruane said: "The Steering group members have embraced the opportunity to provide ideas and agreed an exciting action plan. Their ideas and enthusiasm have been pivotal in the achievement of the funding."

Cathal O'Neill from Kilmorey Care and member of the Steering Group added: "I am delighted to have been involved in achieving the successful funding offer of £100,000 from the Department for Communities for this revitalisation project. Newry, Mourne and Down District Council officials are guiding the Steering Group to ensure this funding will be fully spent before the deadline of 31 March 2024."

WBR Chamber representative, Mark Kelly stated: "The work of the Steering Group has enabled this fantastic investment to be achieved, which will no doubt open up further opportunities with improvement to the business premises and repairs to derelict buildings."
