Construction News Image
Work is to begin on a £550,000 carriageway resurfacing project in Kilkeel.

The work on A2 Newcastle Street/Newcastle Road is to start on Monday, 16 September.

The resurfacing scheme will involve the asphalt resurfacing of a 1.4 kilometre stretch of the Newcastle Street Road from a point 120 metres south of Mill Road junction to approximately 50 metres north of Mourneview Park.

Infrastructure Minister John O'Dowd said: "This is a substantial investment for the Kilkeel area which will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users . The investment demonstrates my commitment to improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. This work will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of this section of the road network to the benefit of local residents, businesses and those travelling in the Kilkeel area. Work is expected to be substantially completed by Sunday 17 November 2024. I would like to thank residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out."

To facilitate the safe delivery of the scheme it will be necessary to implement daily lane closures from 9.30am to 16.30pm, Monday to Friday, from Monday 16 September to Friday 01 November 2024.

Over-night and Sunday road closures will be required to facilitate the final resurfacing works, the dates for which will be confirmed later.

The works are expected to be substantially complete by Sunday 17 November 2024.
