The Department for Infrastructure in Northern Ireland has announced a significant step forward for the A5 Western Transport Corridor project. The department has published a formal Notice of Intention to proceed with the first phase of the scheme and confirmed the necessary legal orders have been made.
These orders, known as Direction, Vesting and Stopping-up Orders, pave the way for construction to begin on a 55-kilometer stretch of new dual carriageway. The route will run from a proposed Junction 8 south of Strabane to Junction 15 near Ballygawley, including the westward extension of the existing A4.
The department has published a composite Statutory Notice outlining the details of the project and the orders. This notice, along with additional information and maps, can be found on the A5 Western Transport Corridor website: a5wtc.
This first phase of construction marks a major milestone for the A5 Western Transport Corridor project, which aims to improve connectivity and reduce travel times between key towns in Northern Ireland.
