Uisce Éireann is set to begin a major water infrastructure project in Doonbeg, Co. Clare, as part of its National Leakage Reduction Programme.
The works will replace over 4 kilometres of aging water mains along the N67 from Doonbeg Village, extending onto the L-2026 and concluding near Baltard National School. Scheduled to begin in mid-November, the project is anticipated to wrap up by the end of March 2024.
The initiative aims to provide Doonbeg residents with a more reliable water supply by significantly reducing instances of bursts and service interruptions. In addition to replacing the old water mains, the project will also see new service connections laid from the public mains to customers' property boundaries.
"This project represents a crucial investment in enhancing the water supply for Clare residents," said Jack Cronin, Programme Manager at Uisce Éireann. "By replacing this section of the water main, we aim to offer the community a more dependable water service and minimise water loss due to leaks."
The project will be executed by Ward and Burke Construction Ltd., on behalf of Uisce Éireann, with traffic management plans in place to ensure the work proceeds safely and efficiently. A stop-and-go system will be implemented, though local and emergency traffic will have access throughout. To reduce inconvenience, work zones will be limited to short sections, and residents will receive at least 48 hours’ notice ahead of any temporary water interruptions.
