Ward and Burke Construction Ltd is currently carrying out works totalling €2 million to upgrade the Glenbeha Water Treatment Plant in Roscrea, County Tipperary, Uisce Éireann has announced.
The upgrades will include a more advanced water treatment process and the provision of high specification disinfection, an electrical upgrade and provision of upgraded SCADA control and monitoring systems.
These will ensure the continued delivery of a clean, secure and reliable supply of drinking water to the area.
The project was targeted as a necessity for the town after Roscrea's water supply was included on the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Remedial Action List (RAL), which identifies water supplies that need improvement.
The upgrade works will ensure full compliance with drinking water standards into the future.
"We're delighted to have commenced this project to upgrade the water treatment plant at Glenbeha," said Uisce Éireann Programme Manager, John Hickey.
"The enhanced treatment facilities will improve the drinking water quality for residents and businesses across Roscrea and surrounding areas ensuring continued delivery of a safe and reliable supply.
"We look forward to keeping the community informed while we carry out these essential works."
Completion of this upgrade project is planned for Autumn 2025.
