Operations have been restored at Rathdown Pump Station in Greystones, County Wicklow, following efforts from Uisce Éireann.
The water company implemented emergency procedures to manage wastewater treatment whilst the plant was offline.
Incoming wastewater to the pump station was diverted to a storm overflow which discharges at the southern external end of the Greystones Harbour Wall.
The Environmental Protection Agency was immediately notified of this emergency procedure. Incoming effluent is now being treated at the pump station as per normal practice.
Wicklow County Council have lifted the bathing restriction at Greystones, in consultation with the Health Service Executive.
