A £575,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme in County Down is set to commence on Monday, January 13, the Department for Infrastructure has announced.

The scheme will take place on the A2 Newcastle Road, Kilkeel, and will involve the asphalt resurfacing of a 1.9 kilometre stretch of the Newcastle Road from a point 350 metres south of Council Road junction to a point close to the Ballykeel Road near Ballymartin.

Work is expected to be substantially completed by Friday, March 21.

Discussing the scheme, Infrastructure Minister John O'Dowd said: "This is a substantial investment for the Kilkeel area which will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users. The investment demonstrates my commitment to improving our rural road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities.
