Watermains Replacement Works To Begin In County Carlow

Civil engineer specialist Shareridge is set to carry out essential watermains replacement works on behalf of Uisce Éireann in the coming weeks in County Carlow.

The works in Tullow Town, which are being carried out under Uisce Éireann's national Leakage Reduction Programme, involves the replacement of more than 2.1km of aging water mains with new, modern pipes and are expected to be completed by September 2025.

Crews will be carrying out works in a phased basis in the town centre, starting on Mill Street Lower working towards Mill Street Upper, then along Church Street, The Course/Crosskeys, Old Chapel Lane, Bishops Street and John's Street.

The works will benefit residents and businesses by reducing instances of bursts and other supply disruptions and improving the operation of the network to reduce the risk of further maintenance work being required in the future.

It will also provide a more reliable supply of clean water by eliminating the challenges associated with aging cast iron mains.

Discussing the replacement works, Dave Murphy, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann, said: "Not only will these upgrades result in fewer leaks, but the new pipes will also significantly lower the instances of bursts and outages on the network, leading to a more secure supply for local community.

"Finding and fixing leaks in the network is an ongoing challenge for us at Uisce Éireann but it is one we are firmly committed to meeting."
