Contracts for the delivery of 13 new social housing units totalling over €2.5m have been signed between Sandar Construction and Cavan County Council.
The project, which is based at Chapel Lane, Munnilly, Cootehill, includes the construction of one terrace block comprising nine one-bedroom units, one two-bedroom unit, and three, two-storey, three-bedroom units, which will boast a BER rating of A3, making them extremely efficient to run for their future occupants and environmentally-friendly for the entire community.
Speaking at the contract signing, Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council, Cllr TP O'Reilly said: "I am delighted to see this exciting housing project reach this advanced stage. I am particularly pleased to see Sandar Construction, a Cavan Town-based firm, emerge successful from the main construction tender process, meaning Cavan County Council will not only be providing high quality homes to 13 families, but also be investing in local jobs in County Cavan, providing a welcome boost to the local economy."
Other local firms contributing to the project, which is 100% funded by the Department of Housing, Local Government, and Heritage, include architects Wynne Gormley Gilsenan, and Alan Traynor Consulting Engineers Ltd.
Additional services are being provided by Renaissance Engineering Ltd and Walsh Associates Quantity Surveying Services. The scheme is expected to be completed in Quarter 1, 2026.
Acting Director of Service for the Council's Director of Services, Housing, Libraries and Cultural Services, Lynda McGavigan, added: "I want to pay tribute to our own Housing Construction team under Senior Engineer John Wilson, and particularly Johnny Condell and Brendan McGourty who have project managed this development so capably, with support from staff and management across the organisation, and always with the full backing of our elected members."
