Works have commenced to install new stormwater infrastructure in Newcastle, County Down, NI Water has announced.
As part of the project, carried out by contractor CivCo, a pipeline will extend from the recently built housing development at 141-143 Central Promenade across the road and connect into an existing outfall pipe. A new manhole will also be constructed with work expected to take around three weeks to complete.
Speaking about the work, Ivor Pollock, NI Water Project Manager, said: "This new pipeline will allow the surface (rain) water from the new development at Central Promenade – which doesn't require treatment – to be discharged directly into the adjacent sea outfall pipe.
"NI Water and our project team from AtkinsRéalis and CivCo would like to take this opportunity to thank local residents, businesses and road users for their patience and cooperation while we undertake this essential work to serve a new development in Newcastle."
To carry out the work as safely as possible, a lane closure will be required on Central Promenade around the pipelaying area for the duration of the works.
Traffic lights will be in place to manage the flow of traffic. Access to houses within any working area as well as the adjacent car park on Central Promenade will be maintained throughout the project.
