This week, Ward and Burke Construction will replace almost 2 kilometres of aged watermains prone to bursts in Ballycarranne, Patrickswell, County Limerick, on behalf of Uisce Éireann.
The works, which are expected to be completed next month, will provide a more secure and reliable water supply for the residents of Ballycarrane and surrounding areas and will significantly reduce high levels of leakage on the network.
The section of works will take place along the L-1425 Newboro, Ballycarrane Patrickswell and L-1427 Ballycarrane, Patrickswell.
Discussing the project, Programme Manager at Uisce Éireann, Brian McCarthy, said: "The importance of these works cannot be underestimated. Replacing these old, damaged pipes will significantly lower the instances of bursts and outages on the network, eliminate existing leaks and reduce the amount of clean water lost into the ground.
"The works will also improve the operation of the network reducing the need to manage frequent repairs of aged water mains, resulting in a positive impact on leakage and the daily lives of the residents of Ballycarranne.
"We would like to thank the local community for their cooperation and patience in advance as we carry out these essential works."
Traffic management will be in place during the works, with a road closure in effect from until April 18 on the L-1425 Newboro, Ballycarrane Patrickswell. This project forms part of Uisce Eireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme.
