A £600,000 pedestrian and cycling improvement scheme commenced today (March 10) in Lagmore Avenue, Belfast, Northern Ireland Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has announced.
The scheme, part of the Belfast Cycling Network Delivery Plan, will introduce segregated cycle tracks along Lagmore Avenue between the junction of Stewartstown Road and Glenfearna Park.
Minister Kimmins stated: "This scheme demonstrates my commitment to investing in active travel infrastructure by providing safer and attractive routes that enable people to choose walking, wheeling and cycling for shorter everyday journeys. Once completed this scheme will deliver improved active travel connections to local schools and amenities in the Lagmore area. Safety will also be improved with the provision of two toucan crossings at existing crossing points and the introduction of raised table humps at all minor road accesses to further assist pedestrian and wheeled users."
To ensure the safety of road users and workers, daily lane closures will be in operation along Lagmore Avenue between 9.30am and 4pm (Monday-Friday) from today until late September 2025.
The Department for Infrastructure has scheduled the work and traffic management to minimise disruption, but road users should anticipate some delays and allow extra travel time. They are also asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions.
