More than 700 metres of old water mains which were susceptible to regular bursts have been successfully replaced in Monaghan Town, Uisce Éireann has announced.
The new pipes were laid in Tully Estate by Farrans Construction on behalf of the utility company as part of its National Leakage Reduction Programme.
These works will not only give local homes and businesses more confidence in their supply, but the new pipework has improved water quality and will put an end to leakage of treated water into the ground.
Discussing the works, Uisce Éireann's Patricia Lowry said: "This work brings a range of benefits for our customers in the area including reliability of supply and improved water quality. It will also help us achieve our 2030 goal of a national leakage rate of 25%. The National Leakage Reduction team has made great strides since 2018, when the leakage rate stood at 46%."
