Water Supply Upgrade Scheduled For Clare Island

A water supply upgrade project will commence this spring at Clare Island, County Mayo, Uisce Éireann has announced.

The project will include the installation of a new UV and granular activated carbon (GAC) secondary filtration unit system. The investment will improve the quality of drinking water for the island and reduce the risk of Boil Water Notices.

Investigative works were carried out on the island earlier this year with the project expected to get underway within weeks.

Uisce Éireann's project manager Michael McHugh explained: "Depending on weather conditions we hope to begin works before summer. This project is a significant investment for the region and will help ensure a safe and reliable water supply for islanders and visitors to the island."

In recent months Uisce Éireann has made significant improvements in safeguarding the island’s water supply with the Find and Fix team detecting and repairing leaks.
