Extensive construction works, valued at over £3 million, have significantly upgraded 40 semi-detached bungalows in L'Derry and Strabane, delivering modern living standards to residents.
The project, undertaken by Hetherington contractors on behalf of the Housing Executive, focused on thermal improvements and comprehensive refurbishment of the post-war aluminium properties.
The works included the installation of new gas-fired central heating systems, external wall insulation, new windows, bathroom and kitchen renovations, rewiring, insulation, and roof repairs. These improvements have dramatically altered the living conditions for residents, many of whom have occupied the properties for decades.
Eddie Doherty, Housing Executive Area Manager, West, explained the significance of the project: "These bungalows have been that popular for so long that they have been kept and retained. When first built they were made of corrugated aluminium and were quite cold, but the work done now has brought them right up to modern day standards, like a new build."
Doherty also praised the contractors: "Thank you to our contractors, Hetheringtons for completing this scheme to such a high standard and in such a timely manner." He added that the Housing Executive regularly engages with tenants regarding planned works, and values the positive feedback received.
