Civil engineers Shareridge will begin works this week on behalf of Uisce Éireann to replace ageing water mains in Bennettsbridge, County Kilkenny.
The improvement works will take place to the rear of the Top Oil petrol station and continue towards Station Road.
Ultimately, over 200 metres of aged water mains will be replaced by the end of May as part of the utility company's National Leakage Reduction Programme.
These important works will not only give local homes and businesses more confidence in their supply, but the new pipework will put an end to leakage of treated water into the ground.
Commenting on the project, Programme Manager at Uisce Éireann, Dave Murphy said: "Replacing these old water mains that are in poor condition will help prevent bursts, eliminate existing leaks, and reduce the volume of clean drinking water lost into the ground.
"This will improve the resilience of the network and give the local community of Bennettsbridge greater confidence in their water supply into the future. I would like to thank the community in advance for their patience and cooperation as we carry out these essential works."
