More than 1.7km of old and damaged water mains are set to be replaced with modern pipes soon in Carrick-on-Suir in County Tipperary, Uisce Éireann has announced.

The works, which will be carried out by civil engineer specialists Shareridge on behalf of the utility company, will take place in a phased basis in the town centre, starting on Castle Lane side of North Quay, working towards the New Street junction of the N24 onto Main Street over Dillon bridge. From then, work will continue from New Street near the junction of N24 towards Main Street, to Bridge Street, West Gate towards the N24 and Main Street.

Areas of work will be limited to short sections to minimise impact on customers. Traffic management in the form of a stop/go system and some road closures will be in place during these periods of work.

The project will be carried out under Uisce Éireann's national Leakage Reduction Programme and are expected to be completed by October 2025.

Dave Murphy, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann, said: "Carrick-on-Suir is a town renowned for its rich heritage and medieval charm, but like many historic areas, it's been facing challenges due to ageing infrastructure.

“By replacing these old water mains, we are not only improving the day-to-day service for the local community but also protecting the towns long term water supply. "
