Public consultation is now under way on a proposed variation to the Cork City Development Plan 2022–2028 for the delivery of the transformative Cork Docklands Framework Plan.

The proposed variation includes the adoption of the Cork Docklands Framework Plan as a new volume of the City Development Plan, alongside updates to Volumes 1 and 2. This is a critical step in supporting the regeneration of a 147-hectare (360-acre) waterfront site that has the potential to deliver between 9,000 and 10,000 new homes in a high-quality, compact urban environment.

The Framework Plan outlines the infrastructure needed to support this transformation, including extensive public realm improvements, transport networks, community and recreational amenities, and waterside facilities.

It also sets out guidance and design principles to assist landowners and developers in delivering high-standard schemes that reflect the historical and natural character of the Docklands. It will also help guide government investment through the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund, supporting the delivery of essential enabling infrastructure.

Cork City Council and the Cork Docklands Delivery Office are inviting members of the public to share their views on this update, which supports Ireland's largest urban regeneration project.

Chief Executive of Cork City Council, Valerie O'Sullivan, said: "The regeneration of Cork Docklands will be transformational for the city and with 6,000 people employed and 640 new homes under construction, it is already happening.

"The Framework Plan is about implementation and the actual delivery of key enabling infrastructure that will further unlock the Docklands opportunity for Cork and for Ireland. Cork City Council is committed to ensuring that both the public realm and private development is delivered at a standard and quality that realises our ambition to create a new world class location in which people want to live, work, invest, visit and explore.

"We invite the public to make their views heard and engage with us as we progress delivery of Cork Docklands, the biggest regeneration project in the State."

The consultation period runs from 9am on Wednesday, April 30, to 5pm on Wednesday, May 28. During this time, the public can engage with the draft documents, attend open days, and make submissions either online, by post, or via e-mail.

Two dedicated public events will be held to facilitate engagement. The first will take place on Wednesday, May 7, at the Clayton Hotel, Lapps Quay, from 12pm to 8pm. The second will be held on Wednesday, May 14, at Millennium Hall in Cork City Hall, also from 12pm to 8pm. Additionally, the project team will be available on Saturday, May 24, at the European Maritime Days to Play event on Albert and Kennedy Quays.
