Farrans Sacyr JV teamed up with Translink and Babcock to share a blueprint for success on large infrastructure projects to 60 stakeholders at Belfast Grand Central Station following recently completed schemes.

Northern Ireland construction company Farrans and joint venture partner Sacyr helped create the new multi-modal transport hub which has replaced the former Europa and Great Victoria Street bus and rail stations, providing greater capacity with an increase to 26 bus stands, eight railway platforms, enhanced walking and cycling connectivity, greater comfort and accessibility encouraging greener, active travel for a healthier, smarter city.

The Weavers Cross development, delivered as part of the project, will regenerate the lands around the transport hub and facilitate economic growth and urban regeneration.

Presentations at the Belfast Grand Central Station event were given by Duane McCreadie, Project Director of Farrans Sacyr JV, Philip Brown, Head of Major Projects at Translink, and Ashley Gierth, Senior Programme Manager at Babcock International Group.

Key topics included collaboration, sustainability, social value and the importance of culture in shaping the performance of the team.

Duane McCreadie said: "This project has been a true demonstration of the success that large scale construction schemes can achieve when culture and collaboration are placed as a priority by the senior teams on client and contractor side.

"We completed phase one ahead of schedule and a large part of being able to achieve that came down to how well all parties were able to work together to address challenges and formulate solutions. We wanted everyone on site to be a part of one team, working towards achieving one goal and celebrating the successes along the way. That helped us to keep an engaged and motivated workforce who were passionate about leaving a positive legacy in the city of Belfast."
