£590k Resurfacing Scheme Begins In Newry

A £590,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme has commenced on B8 Hilltown Road in Newry, County Down, Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has announced.

The road improvement scheme involves the asphalt resurfacing for two kilometres of Hilltown Road from previous the resurfacing scheme near the roundabout through to a point approximately 100 metres past the junction of Derryleckagh Road. Work is expected to be substantially completed by Friday, July 11.

Discussing the scheme, Minister Kimmins said: "This work will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of this section of the road network to the benefit of local residents, businesses and those travelling in the Newry area."

Weekday lane closures are currently being implemented, Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 4.30pm, until Friday, June 27, in conjunction with a temporary 40mph speed limit and no-overtaking order in operation. To complete the resurfacing operation further overnight road closures and a further two weekend closures will be required, on dates to be confirmed.
