Public To Consult Third Design Of Major N24 Cahir Project

A public consultation has been scheduled for the latest design of the N24 Cahir to Limerick Junction & Oola Transport Project.

The N24 national primary route, is a strategic corridor from Limerick to Waterford, traversing through County Tipperary and is approximately 116km in length. It is recognised as being of particular importance in enhancing accessibility to towns it passes through, namely Tipperary Town, Cahir, Carrick-on-Suir and Clonmel, and their rural hinterland.

The section of the existing N24 under consideration in this project is between the M8 motorway, north of Cahir in County Tipperary and an appropriate tie-in point in County Limerick and traverses Tipperary Town and the villages of Bansha, Limerick Junction, Monard and Oola.

Tipperary County Council is progressing the development of the project in partnership with Limerick City & County Council, Transport Infrastructure Ireland and the Department of Transport.

Arup are the appointed Technical Advisors to advance the project through the planning and design phases. The project is being managed by the Mid West National Road Design Office on behalf of Tipperary County Council. The project is a priority investment in the Government’s National Development Plan 2021-2030.

Since the second design update in October 2024, the design team have further progressed the design of the active travel and road components of the Preferred Transport Solution to take account of results from site surveys (including geotechnical investigations, topographical surveys and environmental surveys) and feedback from ongoing landowner engagement.

The latest design update, number three, drawings for the proposed active travel and road components will be published on the project website from 1pm on Tuesday, May 27. These drawings will be indicative only and subject to change as part of the ongoing design refinement process.

A public display will take place in the Great National Ballykisteen Golf Hotel on Tuesday, May 27, from 1pm until 8pm, and on Wednesday, May 28, from 10am until 8pm, and drawings will be available for viewing. Property owners, communities and other stakeholders are encouraged to consult with the project team by attending the public display on the above dates.

Property owners along the corridors for both the proposed active travel and road components will be notified by post and invited to consult with the project team, either in person, or by online or telephone meetings.
