Northern Ireland construction company FP McCann has successfully upgraded the St Columb's Park allotment car park in County L'Derry.

The facility, which is popular with users of St Columb's Park and the Ebrington site, undergone improvement works including a complete resurfacing of the car park and upgrades to the surrounding paths and infrastructure.

The works were made possible through funding of £143,000 from the Department for Communities.

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Lilian Seenoi-Barr, formally reopened the site with representatives from contractor FP McCann and the Department for Communities

"This welcome work is another piece of the jigsaw in the regeneration of St Columb's Park and the Acorn Farm sites," said Mayor Barr.

"The upgraded facility offers running track, park and allotment users better, safer and more convenient parking.

"This adds to the existing free parking available in the area which is popular with people accessing Ebrington site and those using it as a gateway to the city centre via the Peace Bridge."

Communities Minister Gordon Lyons added: "I am pleased that my department has been able to fund this further phase of improvements to enhance the visual impact of St Columb's Park.

"These improvements will provide both the local community and visitors with better linkage between the park, Ebrington Square and the city centre."
