The newly upgraded play space at Carrigmore Park in City West has officially been unveiled by Mayor of South Dublin County Council, Councillor Baby Pereppadan.

New features within the play space were designed to encourage imaginative and constructive play, as well as group play and socialisation. Universal design is also a key feature of the design. The range of equipment has been selected to provide something for all age groups of children.

The works were funded by the Community Recognition Fund provided by the Department of Rural and Community Development. This fund supports the development of community infrastructure and facilities for the entire community in recognition of the contribution being made in the area in welcoming and hosting new arrivals from Ukraine and other countries.

Speaking at the opening event, Mayor Cllr Baby Pereppadan said: "Play is recognised as a vital activity for healthy child development.  It is good for the body and good for the mind.  Playgrounds are also very important for creating strong communities.

"Since this playground has re-opened, there has been an increase in family groups using the park and everyone is getting more exercise and fresh air."
