A public consultation has been launched by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council for a proposed traffic calming scheme.
The works at Churchtown Road Upper, from the junctions with Whitehall Road/Landscape Park, passing Da La Salle College to the junction with Landscape Crescent, will include an enhancement of streetscape, traffic calming and provision of pedestrian crossing facilities.
The purpose of the consultation is to help inform the design, with all submissions and observations on the proposals welcome. Wide carriageways encouraging higher vehicular speeds and a lack of good quality pedestrian crossing points were key challenges to be considered as part of the design process. A preliminary design has been developed to address these challenges.
A detailed look at the scheme reveals it will:
• Provide traffic calming on Churchtown Road Upper by narrowing the road width, installing raised tables at key junctions and tightening junction radii to reduce vehicular speeds in the area.
• Provide a safer school zone in the area around De La Salle College.
• Provide improved pedestrian infrastructure by reducing crossing distances at junctions and installing pedestrian crossing points at key locations.
• Provide a new sustainable drainage system (SuDS) rain garden to improve the urban streetscape on Churchtown Road Upper.
The closing date for receipt of submissions is 12pm on July 18. Submissions can be made here.
