Residents and businesses in Sixmilebridge can now expect a more reliable and sustainable water supply following the completion of major upgrade works by Uisce Éireann.
As part of the project, over one kilometre of old and deteriorating water mains were replaced with modern, durable piping. The improvements are expected to significantly reduce leakage and secure the village’s water supply for the future.
Jack Cronin, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann, said: "We are delighted to have completed these works that are now benefitting homes and businesses in Sixmilebridge. By replacing these old water mains, we will ensure a more sustainable water supply, eliminate existing leaks and significantly reduce the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground protecting our most precious resource. Fewer bursts and less leakage will also ensure a stronger water supply for the local community. I would like to thank the community for their patience and support while the works were being completed."
The project was carried out by Ward and Burke Construction Ltd. on behalf of Uisce Éireann and forms part of the utility's national Leakage Reduction Programme. The initiative is delivering key infrastructure upgrades across Ireland, with goals including enhanced water quality, increased supply resilience, and significant water savings.
