Farrans Construction will begin essential works this month on behalf of Uisce Éireann to replace more than 2.5km of old water mains in Inishowen, County Donegal.
The works will take place along the R238/L1191 from Meendoran Bridge to Ballyliffin Junction in Clonmany as part of the utility company’s National Leakage Reduction Programme.
Homes and businesses situated in Ireland's most northerly peninsula in Donegal will benefit from this significant investment which will see new modern pipes installed to deliver a more reliable water supply.
Discussing the works, Uisce Éireann’s Programme Manager, Patricia Lowry, said: "This section of water main in Clonmany and Meendoran was prioritised for investment and replacement due to its age and condition. These improvements to the water network are critical and we are delighted to progress these upgrades for the local community, as they will strengthen the water network for generations to come. This work will bring a range of benefits for our customers in the area including reliability of supply, fewer bursts and less leakage."
To safely and efficiently deliver this project, traffic management has been set in place in the form of a temporary road closure along the L1191 and will continue until August 15.
The project is expected to be complete by early 2026.
