Uisce Éireann, in partnership with Meath County Council, is progressing plans to construct a 16km trunk watermain between Duleek and Navan.

This project is aimed at improving the reliability and resilience of the water supply for households and businesses in the region.

The planned route for the new watermain will begin at L1610 Boolies Little, south of Duleek, and continue to the junction with the N2 at Balrath. From there, it will follow the R153 through Balrath and Kentstown, continuing to Casey's Cross in Navan. Within Navan, the pipeline will extend across agricultural land from Carn Hill Reservoir, cross the Boyne Road at St Mary's Cemetery, and run underneath the River Boyne, before connecting with existing infrastructure at Proudstown Reservoir.

As part of the works, a new booster water pumping station is also proposed off the R153 in the townland of Brownstown, located west of Kentstown village.

Once complete, the new trunk main will allow Uisce Éireann to divert treated water from Duleek to Navan in the event of planned or unplanned disruptions at the Liscarton Water Treatment Plant. The project forms part of Uisce Éireann's wider strategy to enhance the overall resilience of the water network and minimise the risk of supply interruptions to large population centres.

Speaking about this planned project, Uisce Éireann Regional Delivery Lead William McKnight said: "This strategic trunk watermain project is extremely important for Navan in terms of delivering a safer, more reliable drinking water supply to homes and businesses. This project will support social and economic development by reducing the number of outages while improving compliance and environmental performance."
