Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has confirmed that a £575,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme on the Ballynahinch Road, Crossgar, is set to begin on Monday, 21 July 2025.
The 1.8-kilometre improvement project will stretch from the junction of Saintfield Road/Ballynahinch Road to a point 200 metres east of the Church Road junction. The works aim to significantly enhance road conditions for residents, businesses, and commuters in the area.
Announcing the investment, Minister Kimmins stated: "This substantial investment of £575,000 for Crossgar will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users who travel through this area and demonstrates my commitment to improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. To facilitate the project, road closures will be required. From Monday 21 July to Friday 22 August, the road will be closed Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, to allow for drainage and kerbing works.
A second series of full closures will be necessary for the resurfacing phase, taking place Monday to Friday, from Monday 25 August to Friday 19 September, between 9:30 am and 4:00 pm. The road will remain open overnight and on weekends.
During these closures, a diversion will be in place via the A7 Saintfield Road, A7 Downpatrick Street, A7 Downpatrick Road, A7 Belfast Road, B2 Annacloy Road, B2 Downpatrick Road, A24 Drumaness Road, A24 Church Road, A24 Church Street, A24 Dromore Street, A24 High Street, A24 Main Street, B7 Crossgar Road, B7 Vale Road, B7 Cahard Road, and B7 Ballynahinch Road.
The Department has coordinated the works and traffic management to minimise disruption as much as possible. While local access and bus services will be maintained, delays are expected and motorists are advised to plan ahead and follow all temporary traffic restrictions.
Subject to favourable weather conditions, the works are expected to be completed by Friday, 19 September 2025.
