NI Water has temporarily paused pipelaying works on Madams Bank Road and Queens Quay to ease traffic congestion during the Foyle Cup tournament.

The project on Madams Bank Road involves the installation of new wastewater infrastructure to support ongoing development in the city. Sewer improvement works are also planned for Queens Quay as part of the Culmore Trunk Sewer upgrade. The temporarily paused work will resume after Saturday, July 26.

Traffic management on Madams Bank Road has been reduced to one lane only at the location where excavation has already taken place. This allows two lanes to remain open approaching Culmore Road Roundabout. In addition, temporary traffic measures on Culmore Road and Foyle Bridge have been lifted for the rest of the week to relieve pressure on local routes.

Work on Madams Bank Road will recommence on Monday, July 28, with the reinstatement of required traffic management, in line with permits issued by the Department for Infrastructure.

The Queens Quay section includes relining over 1,100m of existing sewer between Foyle Road and Queens Quay. The upgraded pipeline will help prevent blockages, collapses and out-of-sewer flooding. The sewer diameter on Queens Quay exceeds 1.3m and the work will require a one-way northbound closure between Harbour Square Roundabout and Queens Quay Roundabout once it begins.

NI Water's contractor is currently coordinating with the Department to confirm a revised start date, with plans to complete this section within the remaining school summer break. Advance notice has been issued to local businesses, and signage remains in place to advise road users.
