As part of the Belfast Tidal Flood Alleviation Scheme, a training exercise to install the temporary defences will occur between Monday, July 28 and Saturday, August 2, Northern Ireland's Department for Infrastructure (DfI) has announced.
The exercise will be located along the banks and towpaths of the River Lagan from Stranmillis to Belfast Harbour, with the aim to familiarise staff with the equipment and to practice emergency response procedures.
A statement from the DfI said: "The Department has engaged with multi-agency partners to carefully programme the exercise to minimise inconvenience. Whilst it is not intended to close any roads, there may be some short-term disruption and footpath closures.
"Advisory signs will be provided at a number of locations, including along the towpath. The Department would like to thank the public in advance for their patience."
