John Cradock Ltd has successfully delivered works on Ireland's newest train station in County Dublin ahead of its opening this Sunday, August 10.
Acting as the main project contractor for Iarnrod Eireann on the Woodbrook DART Station, which is located between Bray and Shankill, John Cradock Ltd carried out the works among extensive technical and logistical challenges. These included:
• All works constructed in live rail environment with 200 trains passing through the site on a daily basis;
• Construction of 220m long platforms with feature precast retaining elements as the station is in a cutting;
• New structural steel pedestrian and cycle bridge crossing the rail and the platforms, which has the dual purpose of providing access to the platforms, but also providing a dedicated pedestrian and cycle route over the railway, with separate access ramps for those not using the station;
• Adjustment of the existing OHLE lines;
• Complete electrical fit-out including integrating with Iarnrod Eireann signalling;
• Construction at track level of precast concrete segmental shaft to take all drainage.
The station will serve the existing and new communities of Woodbrook and Shanganagh, offering up to 191 daily DART services every weekday, and will be the 147th Station on Iarnrod Eireann’s network.
Funded by the Department of Transport through the National Transport Authority, the station will be at the heart of a new residential community of up to 2,300 housing units. Substantive works began in November 2023, and the station is opening on schedule.
