Contractors and homeowners can avail of practical advice on energy efficiency at the free 'How to be Energy Smart at Home' clinic in Dún Laoghaire on Saturday, September 27.
The event, coordinated by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council's Energy Team, is designed to help those interested understand how to improve their home's energy performance and save on energy costs.
Energy experts will provide guidance on everything from simple, no-cost measures to reduce energy use, understanding energy bills and smart meters, through to full home energy retrofits that can achieve a high Building Energy Rating (BER). Information will also be available on grants for home energy upgrades and solar panel installation.
Attendees will meet specialists from the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), the Commission for the Regulation of Utilities (CRU), Electric Ireland Superhomes, and Codema, Dublin's Energy Agency. There will also be a demonstration of the UCD Energy Cost Calculator, which allows users to estimate and compare electricity costs using their own smart meter data.
Councillor Jim Gildea, Cathaoirleach, of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, commented: "This free clinic offers an opportunity to meet trusted energy experts under the one roof. Improving the energy performance of your home and using renewable energy creates win-win outcomes for you by improving the comfort of your home, by saving you money and also reducing your carbon footprint."
The event will run as part of Ireland's Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Week, taking place from September 19-28. This event promotes quality education, clean energy, climate action, sustainable cities and communities.
