Uisce Éireann crews have successfully completed repairs to a significant burst on the raw water main supplying the Goatenbridge Water Treatment Plant, which serves customers on the Ardfinnan Regional Public Water Supply Scheme.

The burst, which occurred on September 9, disrupted production at the plant and led to water outages across Goatenbridge, Poulatar, Newcastle, Ballybacon, Grange, Ardfinnan, Jamestown, Marlfield, Neddens, Loughryan, Loughlher, Loughtally, Derrygrath, Newchapel, Rathkeevin, Inishlounaght, Nicholastown, Knocklofty, Grauige Group Water Scheme, Castlegrace, Clerihan Village, Lisronan, Red City and surrounding areas.

Repairs were completed yesterday evening, and as reservoir levels recover, normal water supply is returning to customers today, September 10.

Uisce Éireann's Jim Fitzgerald said: "We also acknowledge the inconvenience of the Boil Water Notice on the local community and assure those impacted that we are working as quickly and efficiently as possible to lift the notice."

The water tankers at Ardfinnan National School and Clerihan Village remain in place until all customers are fully back on supply. Customers have been reminded to use their own containers and boil water before consumption as a precautionary measure.

The Boil Water Notice issued on September 4 for all customers supplied by the Ardfinnan Regional Scheme remains in place. This precaution continues following the detection of cryptosporidium in the raw water source at the Goatenbridge Water Treatment Plant. The notice affects almost 11,500 customers and will remain until it is safe to lift.
