Tower Plant and Civil Engineering Ltd has signed construction contracts with Roscommon County Council for the Strokestown Public Realm Enhancement project.
The project, approved in December 2023, will upgrade the public realm along Bawn Street and Church Street, creating a stronger connection to Strokestown Park House while respecting its heritage character. Works will include new landscaping, street furniture, lighting, shared surface arrangements, space for events, markets and outdoor dining, as well as public information and wayfinding signage. Materials and design elements have been selected to complement the traditional style of the area.
The project is being delivered by Roscommon County Council's Regeneration and Economic Development team, with design services provided by BDP Ltd and input from the Strokestown Town Team. The total scheme budget is approximately €8 million, making it the largest public realm investment in Strokestown to date.
Chief Executive of Roscommon County Council, Shane Tiernan, highlighted the importance of community input in shaping the town centre plan. He noted that the works, while causing temporary disruption, aim to improve the town centre's functionality, accessibility, and appeal for residents and visitors.
The project will complement the recently completed Active Travel improvements on Church Street and the upcoming N5 project, which will help ease traffic through the town and support safer, more convenient movement for pedestrians and vehicles.
