Farrans Construction, working on behalf of Uisce Éireann, is set to begin essential water main replacement works in Dromore West, County Sligo, in the coming days.
The project will see almost 3km of ageing water mains in the Duneill area replaced with new, modern pipes to improve reliability and reduce leakage.
The works form part of Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme and include the installation of new service connections from the public water main to individual property boundaries. This upgrade will ensure a more secure and efficient water supply for homes and businesses in the local area.
Uisce Éireann's Programme Manager, Patricia Lowry, said the investment is an important step for the community: "This section of water main was prioritised for investment and replacement due to its age and condition. These improvements to the water network are critical and we are delighted to progress this upgrade for the community in Dromore West, as it will strengthen the water network for generations to come. This work will bring a range of benefits for our customers in the area including reliability of supply, fewer bursts and less leakage."
To facilitate the works, a road closure will be in place along the L2702 from Duneill Crossroads to the N59 in Dromore West. Diversions will be signposted, and local and emergency access will be maintained throughout the project.
The works are expected to be completed next spring.
