Dublin-headquartered Mercury is taking a proactive approach to site safety this October as teams across the company participate in the 2025 Construction Safety Campaign.
The campaign, which commenced yesterday (October 13) and will run until October 24, will see project teams hosting toolbox talks and training sessions that reinforce fundamental safety practices on every site.
Aligned with this year's CIF theme, Back to Basics, the focus is on practical, on-site engagement to strengthen awareness of core safety measures. Daily sessions will cover leadership and the Golden Rules, live energies, apprentices and general operatives, material handling, and falls from height. Across all sites, teams will also engage in CPR awareness training, dynamic risk assessments, incident demonstrations, and wellbeing webinars.
A central feature of Mercury's campaign is the Safety Observation Report (SOR) programme, introduced company-wide in July. The system enables employees and partners to quickly and anonymously flag potential hazards or unsafe behaviours, supporting early intervention and proactive risk management.
Tony Sheridan, QEHS Director, said the programme is helping to reinforce a strong safety culture by making it easier for everyone on site to raise concerns. "Every person has a role in keeping our sites safe," he explained. "By identifying hazards earlier and encouraging open reporting, we can strengthen prevention and make safety an even bigger part of how we work."
The programme has already seen significant engagement, with over 5,000 reports submitted in just two months, projecting to around 30,000 per year. This data allows Mercury to intervene earlier and work closely with the supply chain to maintain high safety standards across all projects.
At Mercury, every individual, team, and partner is accountable for ensuring safe practices are embedded throughout operations, reflecting the company’s commitment to Work Safe, Home Safe.
